Because we responded so quickly to the arbitrary transfer of Jalil Muntaquim
from Eastern CF to Auburn CF the demand for his property to be sent to him at
Auburn was effective. Jalil got his property today (Sunday). This is
remarkable considering he was moved at 3 a.m. on Thursday emptyhanded. I am
positive that the phone calls, etc, made it clear to the administration we
are not going to sit on our hands and let them mess over our freedom
fighters. Let's keep up the pressure on the other demands for him to be
transferred closer to NYC and his Family Reunion Trailer Visit with his
mother and sister, which he had earned at Eastern CF, be restored there at
Auburn CF. This is the kind of support our pp/pows need and are entitled to
from us. Thanks again for Jalil.

BACKGROUND - ORIGINAL ACTION ALERT - ACTION STILL NEEDED

From: Iyaluua@aol.com
Date: Fri, 7 May 1999 23:40:53 EDT

On Thursday May 6th at 3 a.m. the Department of Corrections (DOC) transferred
New York 3 Political Prisoner A. Jalil Bottom from Eastern Correctional
Facility in lower New York State to Auburn Correctional Facility which is
about a 10 hour trip from NYC. Jalil has been a political prisoner for 27
years and he had been at Eastern CF for three years with no misbehavior
reports, was studying to be a teacher's assistant, was a respected member of
the Muslim community and worked closely with the senior Muslim chaplain.
Another harsh aspect of Jalil's transfer is the fact that he had an upcoming
Family Reunion Trailer Visit scheduled with his elderly mother and sister. So
not only has Jalil lost his Family Reunion visit but he has also been moved
farther upstate and away from extended family and friends. He was not allowed
to take any of his property with him. These arbitrary transfers MUST be
stopped, especially where political prisoners are involved.

Call the Albany Department of Corrections and make a complaint about
arbitrary transfers in the name of A. Jalil Bottom #77A4283. Demand that his
property be handed over to him at once. Demand that he be moved closer to New
York City. The telephone number for the DOC is 518-474-2121.

Call the New York Jericho Amnesty Political Prisoner Campaign at 212-475-9180
for further information.
