A 68- year-old Pierson Chirwa has committed suicide in Mzimba District by hanging himself to the roof of his house, police have confirmed.
Mzimba Police Station Spokesperson, Peter Botha, confirmed the incident, saying Chirwa left home Monday morning for beer drinking to the neighbouring village and reported back at night.
“Chirwa was found hanging dead on the veranda of his house by his granddaughter at 07: 00 on Tuesday morning,” Botha said.
He said his wife Eunice Chilenje rushed to report the matter to police.
“The wife to the deceased was puzzled to see the husband hanging as they have not been in a quarrel in the previous months,” Botha said.
According to Botha, post-mortem results conducted by Mzimba Hospital medical personnel revealed that Chirwa died due to strangulation.
“We are advising members of the public to report issues affecting them to relevant authorities to avoid such deaths,” Botha appealed.
Pierson Chirwa hailed from Kawingeni Village in Traditional Authority M’mbelwa in Mzimba District.
