A 17-year-old boy in Chikwawa committed suicide between the night of June 10 – 11, 2020 but police are yet to establish reasons behind his death.
The deceased is said to have committed suicide in his house by hanging to the roof.
Chikwawa Police Station Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Dickson Matemba said on Friday that a brother to the deceased reported that his brother on the day was left chatting with his friends in the house, only to be found hanging lifeless on the following day.
“After noticing that time had elapsed without seeing him outside, his brother decided to check on him in the house only to find him hanging dead,” Matemba said.
“After the incident, police at Nchalo were notified and went to the scene accompanied by medical practitioners from Nchalo Health Centre who conducted the postmortem and concluded that death was due to strangulation,” he added.
Matemba said the police have since instituted investigations to establish the reason for the boy’s decision to terminate his life.
The deceased hailed from Jayeti Village in Traditional Authority Ngabu in the district.
