Addressing a press conference in Dar es Salaam on February 17, 2020, the ACT Wazalendo party leader Zitto Kabwe revealed that he has the ambition to be Tanzanian president. He said that it’s not the first time to state that when interviewed in different occasions.
However, he said that not unless all opposition parties join and support one individual from either of the parties, the ruling party will be unbeatable. He added that he is ready for the highest seat in the country if his partners in the opposition parties will consider him and whenever he is asked he will be clear about his intentions.
“For us to beat the ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) chaired by the president of the Republic of Tanzania His Excellency John Magufuli, we have to unite together and propose for one individual who will represent us. And if I will be considered, the better, but if they see another who is a bit more competent than me, I will personally support the person,” he further elaborated.
On the issue of the scandals that went viral claiming that Zitto Kabwe instructed the World Bank not to lend Tanzania money to support Tanzania education, he argued by saying that he doesn’t have the power to do so.
Zitto said that he advised World Bank that they should wait until the Tanzanian government allows students who conceive to go back to school after giving birth. He also said that rumours about him writing a letter to the world Bank to deny Tanzania money is not true at all.
“Where can I get the power to terminate the World Bank’s intention to support Tanzania? The thing is, I told them that the money was not directed to education since female students who conceive are denied to continue with studies and remain at homes,” Zitto explained.
