Anglican Church donates Bibles to students
Diocesan Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Northern Malawi Reverend Dr Fanuel Magangani on Tuesday donated 50 Bibles to Students Christian Organization of Malawi (SCOM) members at Chipyera Community Day secondary school in Likoma.
Speaking in an interview, Magangani said the donation is a response to the request the students made when he visited the school last year.
He said the Bible as the word of God, is a tool that they need to impart knowledge so that they can to grow spiritually.
“The Bible is the Word of God, so I was motivated to give them what they asked for because I felt very encouraged. Children nowadays have so much in their shopping list that the children of our days. When they asked for the Bible I said to myself that this is something that I don’t need to fail to supply.” It is the opportunity to share the Word of God to all as this is our Commission.
I went to this school during my secondary education days and I was very encouraged to see that this organization growing from strength to strength. I was among the first students to begin SCOM at Chipyera MCDE as we used to call it in the 90s,” he said.
According to Magangani, they spent over MK K220,000 of this amount $100 was a donation from a friend who is in the USA.
“One of my friends in USA saw my post on Facebook about the request of the Bible’s from the students and he decided to contribute towards the the budget. We are very grateful that even Facebook has become a tool to reach out to many with instant information,” he added.
Commenting on matter, School’s SCOM chairperson Jonathan Chimwaza hailed the church for the donation saying it has come at the right time.
“We need to balance our knowledge between academic knowledge and the increase in the knowledge of the Word of God. I gained a lot as a student to be in the Lord at SCOM,” he said.
