As clubs are experience major financial hiccups across the world due to the coronavirus pandemic which has led to the suspension/ delay of the kick off of the league in different countries, Mozambique based premier league side UD Songo has not been spared as it has announced the reduction of salaries for it’s players by half.

The development has been confirmed by Malawi national football team captain Christopher John Banda who plays for the club together with his brother Frank Banda and from Blue Eagles striker Schumacher Kuwali who were sent back to the country last month amidst fears of the virus.

“We have received communication that our salaries will be cut by half as the team is struggling financially as we are not playing games and the team is not getting revenue from gate collections and all other means which are always there when games are being played.

“It’s sad but there is nothing we can do but to accept the situation the world is in now, since in Europe players salaries have been reduced,” John Banda said.

Last season, the club finished as runners up of the Mocambola premier league and were crowned champions of the Taca Mocambique cup.
