Malawi under 20 national football team drew 2-2 with Botswana at this year’s cosafa youth championship in the second group A match.
Malawi needed a win at all cost to increase its chances of progressing to the semi-finals. The resilient young Zebras denied the jnr flames a goal in the entire first half.
In the second half, flames introduced Lanjesi Nkhoma and Chinsisi Maonga. They were quick and Malawi had more attacking options.
Botswana took the lead in the 55th minute through a Phanza Chose strike. Lanjesi Nkhoma equalised five minutes later after being released by Chinsinsi Maonga.
Three minutes later, Maonga put Malawi in the lead after scoring from close range. This was not enough for the flames to collect maximum points as Botswana levelled matters in the 80th minute through Doctor David.
In another match on Saturday, Zambia registered a 2-0 win over Comoro Islands to top group A with six points, while Malawi who needs a win against Zambia in their match on Monday to progress to the semi-finals are second with four points.
