Mchinji, April 18, 2019 The President of Musicians Union of Malawi (MUM), Reverend Chimwemwe Mhango, has resigned from his position citing personal
reasons for his decision.
Reverend Mhango said although the MUM board relied on him being a man with vision, there are times in life when God wants to use you and are forced to drop certain things to concentrate on his work.
He said he felt like he had to concentrate on his ministry than being involved in so many things.
“I have assured MUM that I am available if there will be need for my support and I will be able to render it and offer my expertise when needed,” Mhango said.
He further said it was his prayer that God gives a new MUM leader who has vision, saying he was willing to help the new leader on some elements of the vision that have not yet been accomplished.
The Secretary for Musicians Union of Malawi, Wellington Chatepa said the board has put the Vice President of Musician Union of Malawi who was elected in December 2018, Gloria Manong’a to be the acting President until Mhango is replaced.
Chatepa said there were many plans which were initiated by Mhango but because of his resignation, continuity had been disturbed. He said with time, they would recover and be back on track.
The national executive committee and the board will conduct a meeting to choose another president or to continue with the vice president.
