Northern region TNM super league side Chitipa united can afford a smile after three politicians namely Honorable Jappie Mhango, Simon Vuwa Kawunda and Leston Muli have promised to give the team money that is remaining for them to clear their 32 seater coaster bus which has been stuck at the Songwe boarder since 15th of January this year.
Jappie Mhango who is the Minister of Health has promised to give the club K1 million with Vuwa Kaunda and Muli to help the club with K500,000 and K1,100,000 respectively for the club to add up on what they have to clear their coaster.
The club bought their bus at K5.5 million and were told to pay K6.5 million as clearing fee to Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) which made the team’s buy a coaster taskforce committee to ask well wishers for help and managed to collect K4.5 million.
General secretary for the buy a coaster taskforce committee Pickford Kamanga said it is a relief to the club as they have now managed to source money enough to clear the bus but asked people not to associate the team with politics.
“It’s a good thing that they have come to our rescue with money to add to what we already have and clear the bus. We are very thankful and it’s not the first time for politicians to help the team. Mhango and Vuwa have been helping us and people should not associate Chitipa United with any political activity. We opened the door to anyone who was willing to help us and they saw it important to help us”, said Kamanga.
