City drop points as Liverpool return to winning ways

The battle for three-points in the English Premier League (EPL) continued on Sunday with pride at stake for the winning teams.

Liverpool were 2-0 winners over Aston Villa. They registered their first win since being crowned as champions of the 2020/21 season. Aston Villa was solid in defence in the first half that no goals were seen by half time. In the second half, the home side took the lead in the 71st minute through Senegalese striker Sadio Mane who made no mistake after receiving a good pass from Guinea international Naby Keita to score his 20th league goal of the campaign.

With a minute to full time, Liverpool academy graduate Jones scored the 2nd goal making it 2-0. Aston Villa returned home empty-handed and remain in the relegation zone.

At St Mary’s stadium, a 16th-minute goal from Adams proved vital in defeating Manchester City. Adams chipped over Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson from 30 yards after he had left the goal line. The win has moved the saints to 13th position with 43 points from 33 games.

In another match played at St James’ park, Newcastle United and West Ham United shared a point each after a four goals thriller.

Newcastle twice came from behind to earn a point at home as the visitors took the lead as early as the 4th minute through Antonio which was cancelled by an Almiron strike in the first half. In the second half, West Ham thought they will carry the day when Soucek restored their lead just after the hour mark which was short-lived as Shelvey equalised 2 minutes later.
