FAM change calendar due to COVID-19

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has taken advantage of the delayed kick off of the 2020 season due to the coronavirus pandemic to permanently change the football calendar to match with the international standards recommended by the world football governing body FIFA and Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).

For the past 10 years, the football season has been starting in March to December but with the 2020 season proposed to kick off in August, FAM says this will be a start of a new chapter as the season will no longer start early than August.

This has been revealed in the proposal the FA has written to the ministry of Sports, Youth and Culture sighting the start of the new season on 8 August and will end on 30 May 2021 with teams expected to start training in small groups on June 19 before they resume full training on 29 June.
