Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has resolved to commence discussions with the Malawi government and relevant stakeholders on the possibility of kick off of the 2020/21 football season in August.
At a meeting held in Salima on Saturday 30th May 2020, FAM executive committee agreed to the proposal submitted by the FA’s competitions committee and COVID-19 taskforce committee who set August as the month for football games to resume in the country.
In a statement released by FAM signed by general secretary Alfred Gunda, the meeting with government officials and all relevant stakeholders will start in June 2020 with the FA giving a blueprint on how football can resume in the safest manner possible to mitigate the effects of COVID-19.
The 2020 football season was supposed to kick off on 21st of March but was postponed after President of the republic of Malawi professor Arthur Peter Muthalika declared a state of disaster in the country due to coronavirus.
