Football Association of Malawi (FAM) says they are arranging a strength test match for the Malawi national football team against Zambia to be played during the FIFA international dates which fall from 7th to 15 October.
According to FAM general secretary Alfred Gunda, they are in talks with Zambia football association for a match as the council of southern Africa football association (COSAFA) is yet to confirm if this year’s tournament which was scheduled to take place in Durban from October will take place.
“Cosafa is yet to confirm if the cosafa senior challenge will take place next month and we are planning for the friendly match against Zambia as our plan b in case the tournament fails to take place. We feel Zambia will give us a good game as we try to put the boys in shape ahead of the Burkina Faso match,” he said.
FAM planned to use the cosafa tournament as a preparation ground ahead of their crucial back to back African cup of nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Burkina Faso later in November.
