The World football governing body FIFA has for life bared former Malawi National football team and Silver Strikers Football Club midfielder Hellings Mwakasungula from taking part in any football related activities.
According to a press statement released by FIFA, the world governing body has barned nine individuals of which eight are players / former players and the other being a player’s agent and the individuals were found guilty of match manipulation in violation of Article 69 part 1 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code ( Unlawfully influencing match results).
Reports indicate that Mwakasungula who is Silver Strikers Football Club team manager committed the crime in 2008 Confederation of African Football (CAF) qualifies when he was playing for the Malawi National Football team which it’s finals where staged in Angola in 2010 when he involved himself in match fixing.
The list indicates Former Flames Midfielder Hellings Mwakasungula, Karlon Murray and Keyeno Thomas from Trinidad and Tobago, Ibrahim Kargbo from Sierra Leone , Khudzanai Shaba from Zimbabwe , Sedatch Tchomongo from Benin, Leonel Duarte from Cuba and Mohammad Salim Israfeel Kohitsani from Afghanistan all being bared not to take part in any football related activities for life.
FIFA has also banned George Owino Awudi from Kenya not to take part in any football related activities for ten years and pay a fine of CHF 15,000 .
Hellings Mwakasungula was part of the Malawi National football team that made history to qualify for an African Cup of Nations finals after 25 years and at the finals staged in Angola in 2010 the Flames managed to defeat Algeria 3-0 before losing to the host Angola 2-0 and 3-1 to Mali.
