Malawi government through the ministry of youth sports and culture will advertise the positions of Malawi national football team assistant coaches. A call made by the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to just give the current coaches contracts was not accepted.
FAM initially requested the government to put Flames assistant coaches Lovemore Fazili and Bob Mpinganjira on their payroll as is the case with head coach Meke Mwase.
Ministry of youth sports and culture spokesperson Simon Mbvundula said government has decided to advertise the position.
“We will put an advert in the press very soon for the position of assistant coaches for the Malawi national football team. Those who will meet the requirements including Mr Fazili and Mr Mpinganjira need to apply. Those who will be picked for the job will then be put on government payroll for one year as is the contract for head coach Meke Mwase. We are doing this to give more coaches a chance to try their luck,” Mbvundula said.
In their response FAM through general secretary Alfred Gunda said they will go for government’s decision.
“We should respect the decision made by the government to advertise the positions but we hope the employment process will be done in good time,” Gunda said.
FAM want the Flames assistant coaches to double as under 17 and under 20 national team coaches.
