Kenyan international attacking Midfielder Francis Kahata says there is a great difference between Vodacom Premier League derby and Kenya Premier League derby. Kahata played the biggest derbies in Kenya and Tanzania, while in Kenya, he plays the derby between Gor Mahia Football Club and AFC Leopard.
As now he is playing for Simba Sports Club, he already played one derby earlier this season when Simba Sports Club faced Yanga Sports Club and lost by one-nil.
Kahata explains the huge difference between Kariakoo derby in Tanzania and Mashemeji derby in Kenya.
“There is a huge difference between Kariakoo derby and Mashemeji derby, it is an honour to me, to play in both derbies. In Tanzania, the motivation is high, the stadium is always full unlike Kenya, and to be honest, as players we feel different emotions, emotions you cannot express.”
“And it hurts way more seeing the fans crying when we lose a game, to them, it’s not acceptable to lose to the rivals again like Yanga Sports Club. It is better to lose to some other teams in the division but not the derby. There is a derby in Kenya but it’s different to Simba Sports Club and Yanga Sports Club,” said Francis Kahata. He had a great impact in his debut season with the defending champions as they hunt for a third Championship in a row and to Kahata that will be his first Vodacom Premier League title.
