Police in Dar es Salaam have arrested the Legal and Human Rights Centre Public Affairs officer Tito Elias Magoti and three others for questioning.
A statement issued by the Dar es Salaam Special Zone Commander Lazaro Mambosasa says Magoti was arrested and not abducted as earlier stated by some sources.
Magoti’s close friends claimed that he was arrested by six plainclothes policemen as soon as he dropped from a boda boda taxi and was bundled into a waiting Toyota Harrier vehicle. after being handcuffed.
In his statement, Mambosasa said,” We would like to inform the public that Magoti was not kidnapped and there are no incidents of kidnapping in Dar es Salaam.”
Earlier reports indicated that the 26 year old Magoti was kidnapped around 10 am on Friday in Mwenge, Kinondoni at the intersection of Sam Nujoma and Bagamoyo roads.
Mambosasa added that Magoti and his colleagues were being held in police custody and that once investigations and interrogations were completed the four would appear in court.
