Most football fans, will remember the day when Tanzanian Football federation’s president Wallace Karia said that all domestic clubs that requested the federation to add more foreign players, saying this will help to improve domestic football, be granted their request. It was on July 25, 2018, President Wallace Karia announced the changes.
In the just ended season [2017/18] , clubs were permitted to sign seven foreign players but Karia said the coming 2018/19 season will see clubs have 10 foreign players.
“We have heard many people saying a lot about having 10 foreign players, but let me say that it was not the federation’s decision to add players from seven to 10. In the coming season, teams will be free to sign 10 foreign players but this will be reviewed at the end of the season,” he said.
Since then, most premier league teams went miles away to search for gifted Players to top up their team and thus the league become more and more competitive, because of the influence of the large number of foreign players.
This season the leading league Top scorer is Meddie Kagere from Rwanda playing for league defending Champions Simba sports club. Followed by Herittie Makambo from Congo playing for Yanga Sports Club.
In the Premier league almost all 20 clubs have foreign players who are really competitive and show great performances during the games. Players like Cloutus Chama, Haruna Niyonzima, Makambo, Okwi and Agrey are exemplary.
