The Malawi under 20 national football team has been booted out of this year’s cosafa under 20 youth championship. They lost to Zambia 2-1 in the last group A match played at the Nkoloma stadium on Monday.
The Jnr flames needed a win at all cost to progress to the semi-finals but the host ended their hope. Zambia finished top of group A with a 100% record after winning three games.
The jnr Chipolopolo took the lead in the 40th minute when Goldon Mafwenta converted a penalty which Malawi failed to equalise until half time.
In the second half, the host doubled the lead in the 70th minute through Mwape before Francisco Madinga scored Malawi’s consolation four minutes later which was not enough to save the jnr flames.
In another group A match, Botswana defeated Comoros Island 2-0. They finished third in the group with four points but their goal difference is not better than that of Malawi which has finished on the second position with four points as well.
Comoro Islands finished on the fourth position as it lost all the three games.
