Lilongwe,  Kamuzu Barracks Saturday climb to the top of TNM Super League summit when they beat unpredictable Karonga united 2-0 at Civo stadium in Area 9, Lilongwe.

The Chiwoko Boys have gone on point clear over Be Forward Wanderers with 20 points from nine games but the latter have a game in hand to fulfill on Monday against Master Security in Blantyre while Kamuzu Barracks will play host to Moyale Barracks at Civo stadium in Lilongwe.

It seems Kamuzu Barracks are geared to replicate what they did in 2016 for winning the first league title as they continue to remain within top five of the title race.

Karonga United had a grand game last Saturday when they played Silver Strikers in the   Final of the Airtel Cup 2019 where they lost 1-0.

Karonga United Head Coach, Dan Dzinkambani made two changes to their first tem lineup that played against Silver during the final and they rested Gule Maluswa and Gentulo Andrea for Antony Mfune and Lottie Mwakisulu respectively.

The Airtel hang over defeat has coped up with Karonga boys as they failed to put the acts together to march the standards displayed last weekend despite some flushy touches by Victor Lungu, Misheck Selemani and Luselero Malema.

The Youthful Kamuzu Barracks side has an intent to chase the title as they settle quickly with wonderful displays from Sam Gunda, Marshal Maluwa, Nation Haraz  and Sammy Chiponda.

Nine minutes into the game Kamuzu Barracks were awarded a penalty when Karonga United defender, William Mwalwimba had brought down midfielder, Gunda.

The resultant spot kick was delivered home by Gunda giving no chanced to Karonga keeper, Happy Msowoya to save it.

The two played a balanced affair but with little creation of chances to score goals until they went for recess with Kamuzu Barracks in slander lead.

Three minutes into the second half, Gunda scored his second for the game to put his team into a 2-0 lead from a free kick 28 metres from western touchline of the northern goal whose kick was slightly deflected to elude Karonga United keeper, Msowoya.

Karonga introduced the fresh legs of Maluswa for captain happy Msowoya to improve their attacking machinery in 53rd minute

Two minutes later, Karonga wasted a chance through Mfune when blasted wide Selemani’s corner kick.

Kamuzu barracks were under intense pressure and they made tactical change, they pulled out Chimwemwe Chisambi for Ndaona to contain the on slots by Karonga in the 73rd minute.

Karonga were dealt with a blow in the 81st minutes when wonder boy, Selemani was stretched off after being injured and was replaced by Bernard Msiska.

Overlapping Karonga United left back defender, Mwalwimba had a chance to pulled one back in the 84th minutes but he blasted the ball over the cross bar with Kamuzu Barracks goalie, Bowage Lweya out positioned on the goal mouth.

Kamuzu Barracks made late substitutions, they pushed Stain Chirwa for Manase Chiyesa in the 88th minute and two minutes into added time, Gerald Chingana went in for Maluwa.

Kamuzu Barracks midfielder, Gunda was named man of the match.

Karonga United will face Dwangwa United Sunday at Chitowe in their second game of the weekend.

“Am very happy that we managed to beat Karonga united and it was a tough side. You know they played in the finals last week against Silver Strikers where lost by goal to nil. Winning today it was an advantage to me because I had an opportunity to watch them play at Bingu Stadium,” Kamuzu Barracks Coach, Billy Phambala said.

He added that his charges played according to his instructions which enable them to collect maximum points and return to the top of the log table.

Karonga United Coach, Dzinkambani noted that his players never fought and played their usual game which has resulted into a defeat.

He admitted that his players lacked killer punch in the game and their passes were pathetic.
