Malawi Defence Force (MDF) football side Kamuzu Barracks is in talks with Blue Eagles football club to clear midfielder Gregory Nachipo so that they register him ahead of the 2020/21 season scheduled to start in August.
Last year, Nachipo left Blue Eagles when he had a running contract to undergo Malawi Defence Force (MDF) training and has been deployed at MDF headquarters which is the base of Kamuzu Barracks football club.
The 2016 TNM super league champions have welcomed 8 players who have completed the MDF training, among them are former Civil Service united and Malawi under 20 national football team goalkeeper Hastings Banda as well as Nachipo. According to general secretary for the club captain Precious Majiga they need to follow all the necessary procedures before the players start featuring for the club.
“These people were employed by MDF as soldiers and not players which means that for KB to register them as it’s players, there is a need to talk to their former clubs for clearance.
Hastings Banda already has the blessing of his former club as his contract ended when he left the club but as for Nachipo we will talk to Eagles for his clearance so that we register him in the Mpira connect at Football Association of Malawi (FAM) as our player,” he said.
Commenting on the development, Blue Eagles football club vice general secretary William Nkhoma said,
“If they want him to play for KB, they need to write to us seeking for his clearance and upon the completion, if all negotiations we should let him go with our blessings.”
