Africa is comprised of desert, tropical, savanna grasslands, jungle and even subarctic climates. The top half of the continent is comprised of a desert, and the Sahara Desert, the world’s hottest desert, is located in Northern Africa, and at 3.5 million square miles is approximately the size of the United States or China.
- The African savanna is a tropical grassland that is quite large in size, covering roughly half of the continent. This area includes the Serengeti, which is famous for its wildlife.
- The Sahara is the largest desert in the world. In fact, it’s bigger than the United States!
- The Sahel is a strip of dry land stretching across Northern Africa from the Atlantic Ocean to The Red Sea.
