There is great diversity in Africa, and there are many different native people groups. Many of these people groups have their own languages, and there are well over a thousand languages recognized on the African continent. Because of this, the African continent has the highest level of multilingualism in the world.
- There are eight major geographical regions in Africa, each with its own unique landscape: the Sahara Desert, the savanna, the Sahel, the African Great Lakes, the Swahili Coast, South Africa and the rain forest.
- The Sahara is the largest desert in the world. In fact, it’s bigger than the United States!
- Africa is the world’s oldest populated area. Archaeologists have found evidence that the human species has lived on the content for roughly 7 million years!
- Sudan has more than 200 pyramids, double the number found in Egypt.
