Leipzig defeat Madrid to reach champions league semifinals

Drama and excitement continue in the 2019/20 champions league season as teams battle for supremacy of Europe when it comes to football.

On Thursday, RB Leipzig from Germany took it late to defeat Atletico Madrid of Spain 2-1 in a match played at the Estadio Jose Alvalade to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament for the first time.

Going into the match, the Spanish side looked favourites on paper but RB Leipzig stood the heat of Atletico Madrid as it ended goalless in the first half.

Five minutes into the second half, the Germany side took the lead after a good switch of play from left to right which saw the unmarked Olmo head home a Sabitzer cross to the frustration of the Spanish side.

Atletico Madrid in search of an equaliser pressurised Leipzig and was awarded a penalty in the 70th minute after striker Felix was brought down in the box who stood up to convert the resulting spot-kick.

With 2 minutes to full time, Adams was the hero for RB Leipzig as he saw his low shot from outside the box deflected into the net to send his side into the semifinals of the champions league where they will face Paris Saint Germain (PSG) from France.
