Zomba based Malawi Defence Force (MDF) super league side Red lions football club will miss the services of 12 players who are to undergo military training soon.
Red Lions which was promoted back into the super league in 2019 after being champions of the Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) league has submitted names of 12 players who were civilians to undergo military training in Salima.
According to the team’s coach Red Lions coach Tione Mhone the club submitted names including that of Ronald Pangani they signed from Silver Strikers, Davie Banda and Khumbo Banda to go for training and they are likely to miss the season which will start in August.
“We submitted names of all our civilian players and they are likely to miss the rest of the season which is expected to start in August,” he said.
Pangani further said that the Lions have recalled back all their civilian players as they aim to start training in groups.
“So far all the civilian players were sent back home as we were not doing any football-related activity but we have called them back to be here on Sunday (28 June 2020) as we aim to improvise a plan to train in small groups from next week,” he said.
