There was drama and tears on the last day of the 2019/20 English Premier League season as teams had to fight for themselves to achieve something by the end of it all with the top four finish and survival from relegation being at stake for some teams.
At the Stamford Bridge, Chelsea welcomed Wolves in a match that caught the attention of many people as the result on the day would determine the fate for the blues in next seasons UEFA champions league. Two goals from Olivia Giroud and Mason Mount gave the home side a convincing 2-0 win against Wolves and get an automatic qualification for next year’s champions league as they have finished the league on 4th position with 66 points. Wolves have finished the season on 7th position with 59 points.
In another top billing match, Leicester City invited Manchester United at King Power stadium in another top-four battle. United which needed only a point from the match contained the pressure from the high pressing foxes until half time.
In the second half, the visitors took the lead from the penalty spot through Bruno Fernandes after Antonial Martial was fouled in the box. The home pushed for an equaliser which never came and saw defender Jonny Evans shown a red card in added minutes of the match. United capitalised on the foxes as Jesse Lingard ended his 34 games goal drought when he scored after Leicester City goalkeeper Schmeichel misplaced a pass for the game to end 2-0 in favour of the visitors.
Manchester United have booked themselves a place in next seasons champions league having finished on 3rd position with points while Leicester City will place in the Europa League having fallen out of the top four in which they have been in for the better part of the season as they have finished on 5th position with points.
In another game, Watford has been relegated from the EPL after losing 3-2 to Arsenal at the Emirates stadium. Gabonese international Pierre Emerick Aubameyang scored a brace with Tierney scoring the other goal for the Gunners. Troy Deeney and Danny Welbeck were on target for Watford but the goals were not enough to save them from being relegated.
Arsenal has finished the season on 8th position with 56 points while Watford has been relegated as they have finished with 34 points and on 19th place.
Last seasons English Premier League champions, Manchester City humiliated already relegated Norwich united as they won 5-0 at the Etihad stadium. At half time, the citizens were leading 2-0 thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kelvin De Bruyne. In the second half, Manchester City scored three goals past Norwich goalkeeper through Raheem Sterling and Algerian international Riyad Mahrez before De Bruyne completed his brace on the day.
Manchester City has finished with 81 points and on 2nd position, while Norwich will have to return to the Skybet championship having finished the season with 21 points and on 20th position.
Bournemouth ended the season with a 3-1 win over Everton but the three points collected were not enough to save them from being relegated. At the Goodson park, three goals were scored in the first half with the visitors scoring through King and Solanke while Kean was on target for the home side.
In the second half, Junior Stanislas scored the third goal for Bournemouth which has finished the season on 18th position with 34 points and have been shown the exit of the English Premier League. Everton has finished in the bottom half of the league as they have finished on 12th position with 49 points.
Aston Villa will play in the EPL next season after a 1-1 draw against West Ham United at London stadium. Two goals were scored in a space of two minutes as Grealish put Villa in front in the 84th minute before Yarmolenko equalised a minute later for the hammers.
Aston Villa has finished on 17th position with 35 points while West Ham is a place above Villa with 39 points.
Liverpool ended the season with a 3-1 win against Newcastle united. Vigil Van Dijk, Origi and Sadio Mane were on target for the champions while Gayle scored Newcastle’s consolation goal.
Southampton has finished the season on a high following a 3-1 win against Sheffield united. Lundstrarm opened the scoring in the 26th minute for Sheffield to lead 1-0 at half time.
In the second half, the saint fought back at scored three goals through a brace from Charlie Adams with Ings scoring the other goal to end the campaign on 11th position with 52 points.
Sheffield united who were promoted into the English Premier League last season have finished on 9th position with 54 points.
Tottenham Hotspur failed to defend a 13th-minute goal scored by Harry Kane as they drew 1-1 against Crystal Palace at the Selhurst Park. The Eagles equalised through Schlupp in the second half to see the two sides walk away with a point each.
Spurs will play in the Europa League next season having finished on 6th position with 59 points while Crystal Palace has finished on 14th position with 43 points.
At the Turf Moor, Bissouma and Connolly were on target for Brighton in their 2-1 win against Burnley. The win has helped Brighton to finish on 15th position with 41 points while Burnley has on position 10 with 54 points.
