Super league of Malawi (SULOM) has not lifted the ban on Moyale Barracks and Mzuni football clubs. The teams will not use Mzuzu stadium as their home group for two years in their TNM super league fixtures.
The two northern region sides were banned last year after their match ended in violence. They have been using Karonga stadium as their home ground.
Speaking in an interview, SULOM general secretary Williams Banda said they have allowed the two sides to use Mzuni for only this weekend.
“We have allowed the two teams to use Mzuzu stadium for their weekend fixtures. The teams have written to us they are facing financial problems but it doesn’t mean the ban has been lifted,” Banda said.
Reacting to the development, Mzuni football club general secretary Donnex Chilonga said it feels good to play at Mzuzu stadium.
“We thank SULOM for allowing us to use Mzuzu stadium but the fact that we have been using Karonga Stadium as our home ground has affected us financially. As a team we have learned from this situation”, he said.
The two sides are expected to battle for three points on Saturday.
