Blue Eagles football club might miss 13 of it’s key players during the 2020/21 season expected to start in August as they are to undergo training at Malawi Police Service ( MPS).
MPS has released a shortlist of candidates to go for interviews where names of Blue Eagles players such as goalkeepers Thokozani Zimba and Chimwemwe Kumkwawa who is yet to make his debut for the club appears. The list also has among other players names of Wonder Jelemani, John Malidadi jnr, Osward Maonga, Onesimo Mbendela, Grant Zakumbuyo, Gabriel Chirwa, Mphatso Philimoni, Lazarous Deco Nyemera, Kingsley Kuwali and Osward Maonga.
According to team manager for Blue Eagles which is sponsored by MPS Frank Kalodzeni, the club has put in place measures to still be a strong side in the new season if the 13 players leave for MPS training.
“Football is a short term career and it is good for these players to go for MPS training so that they get a permanent job. As Blue Eagles we signed a number of players during the transfer window who should be given a chance to fill in the gap to be left by these players,” he said.
The club won the FISD challenge cup and finished on fourth position in the TNM super league in 2019 and has among it’s players captain Micium Mhone and Maxwell Salambula who are also MPS officers.
