Mzuni Football Club has asked the Super League of Malawi (SULOM) to refund them their money they used over the weekend in Lilongwe as they waited for their TNM Super League match against Kamuzu Barracks Football Club which did not show up at the CIVO Stadium on Sunday.
Kamuzu Barracks Football Club which is a Malawi Defense Force team wrote to SULOM that it will not show up for the game as most of its players are soldiers and have been deployed in various places during the elections period but Mzuni say they didn’t receive any communication that the game will not be played.
Mzuni Football Club general secretary Donex Chilonga said all they want is for SULOM to refund them k900,000 they used in preparation for the Kamuzu Barracks match and they be awarded three points and two goals as per the rules as they showed up at the venue for the match.
“We have written to SULOM asking them to refund us money we spent on Saturday evening as we awaited for the Sunday game against Kamuzu Barracks as we only played one game in Lilongwe.
“To us this game is gone and we expect SULOM to award us with three points as we showed up at the match venue at the same time they will be considering of refunding us “, Chilonga said.
Chilonga added that they were not given any communication that the game will not be played on Sunday.
“We ended up spending a night in Lilongwe after our game with Silver Strikers as we were not communicated to that the game is postponed and we even showed up at the match venue as we only knew that the game will not be played in the morning of Sunday around 9 o’clock.
“It will be very unfair if SULOM will ask us to come back in Lilongwe for a match against Kamuzu Barracks and SULOM should also be ready to accept any decisions we will make as Mzuni in regards to the Kamuzu Barracks Fixture “, Chilonga said.
In the fixture released for TNM Super League games for the weekend of 18-19 May, SULOM allocated Mzuni Football Club to play two games in Lilongwe but only played against Silver Strikers Football Club on Saturday were they lost 2-1.
