Sponsors of Be Forward Wanderers football club, Be Forward Limited has denied a request made by the club to have its sponsorship increased as the team has more debts.
Wanderers has a three-year sponsorship deal with the Japanese company and receive $200 000 which is equivalent to k150 million and are also entitled to $20 000 (k15 million) if they win the TNM super league.
In an interview, the nomads’ chairperson Gift Mkandawire has confirmed they made the request to the sponsors but it has been denied.
“We did ask the sponsors to consider increasing the sponsorship but they have told us to respect the contract”, Mkandawire said.
Wanderers have finished the 2019 season without paying it’s players game bonuses of 13 games and Rashid Gaffer who is one of the trustees of the team, twice gave the team money after the boys threatened to boycott the games.
Be Forward Wanderers has finished the season empty-handed as it finished on 2nd position in the TNM super league and were shown the exit in the Airtel Top 8 by Silver Strikers. The team also failed to defend the FISD cup when they lost to hangover united in the quarter-finals.
