2006 – Congo released a group of South Africans, Nigerians and Americans arrested over what it called a suspected coup plot, saying it did not have time to try them itself before long-awaited national elections in July. In the volatile northeast Ituri district a Nepalese peacekeeper was killed and seven others were feared kidnapped by militiamen during a military operation. 2 peacekeepers were released on June 27. The remaining 5 were released
1647 – A new law bans Catholic priests from the colony of Massachusetts. The penalty is banishment or death for a second offense
