2001 –  Evison Matafale the founder of the band died whilst in police custody. He was accused of coming up with a political song that criticized the United Democratic Fund (UDF) under the leadership of Bakili Muluzi.

2006 – Joseph Kabila was declared the winner of the country’s first democratic elections, beating rival Jean-Pierre Bemba in a second-round run-off. The period between the two election rounds is marked by deadly violence.

1960 – Patrice Lumumba fled Leopoldville, Congo.

2002 –  A WHO official said simultaneous outbreaks of the flu and meningitis killed 185 people in a rebel-controlled area of northwestern Congo.

2006 – Congo’s supreme court upheld President Joseph Kabila’s victory in landmark elections, ruling as unfounded the runner-up’s charges of widespread fraud.
