AFRICA – [Malawi]

1981 – Malawi played their first international soccer match against Mozambique in Malawi and won 3-1. Goals were scored by Kamfa, Bille, and Chamangwana.

1971 – Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda sworn in as President for Life of Malawi

1964 – Malawi became a fully independent member of the Commonwealth (formerly the British Commonwealth).

1964 – Malawi, a former British protectorate and part of the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland, gained independence.

1968 –  Malawi played their first international soccer match against Kenya in Malawi and drew 2-2

1989 – The first international soccer match against Gabon. Malawi won 2-0. Two goals scored by Kayira.

1970 – Malawi played their first international soccer match against Mauritius  and won 1-0

1974 – Malawi played their first international soccer match against Ivory Coast won 5-1.

2012 – “Malawi’s President Joyce Banda released 377 prisoners to mark 48 years of independence from Britain, but left child rapists to “”die”” behind bars.”

1964 – Malawi (formerly Nyasaland) declares independence from UK

2016 –  South African athlete Oscar Pistorius is sentenced to 6 years in jail for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013
