Malawi national football team defender Charles Petrol was delighted to have been given a full debut which helped his club Sherrif FC register a 2-1 win over Petrocub football club in the Moldova cup during the weekend.
Petro joined Sherrif FC earlier this year from Nyasa Big Bullets football club after winning the 2019 TNM super league where he was also named best defender of the season and only featured as a substitute for his Moldova side before football was suspended all over the world due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Speaking in an interview, the flames defender was delighted to have played a full game for the club and to have won the match.
“I am happy to have played my full debut since I joined the club and this is our first game since football resumed here in Moldova after it was suspended due to COVID-19. It’s a good thing that the coaches trusted me to play the game but I need to work extra hard for me to earn a place in the starting team,” he said.
Despite winning the match, Sherrif FC is out of the Moldova cup on away goals rule after the first game ended 1-0 in favour of Petrocub.
