Chicken Inn football club from Zimbabwe has been crowned champions of the 2020 Energem international bonanza after securing a 2-0 win over Mozambique premier league side UD Songo at the Kamuzu stadium on Sunday, 1 March.
Fresh from defeating two Malawian teams, Bullets and Wanderers, Chicken Inn showed their versatility against Songo when they took the lead in the first half through Bretti Amidu before Xolani Ndlovu cemented the win with a fine finish in added minutes of the second half.
Chicken Inn participated in the Energem international bonanza organised by Bullets for the second successive year and have finished the tournament with a 100 percent winning record having won all the three games and scored four goals without conceding any. Last year the Zimbabwe premier league side finished the four team bonanza on fourth position with a single point.
In another match played in the afternoon at the Kamuzu stadium, Nyasa Big Bullets thrushed rivals Be Forward Wanderers in a seven goals thriller, in what was described as an entertaining first Blantyre derby of 2020.
Be Forward Wanderers opened the scoring in the 2nd minute of the game through Vincent Nyangulu before Bullets equalised a minute later through Bright Munthali after the nomads defence failed to clear a Gomezgani Chirwa cross. Mike Mwate doubled the lead for the people’s team in the 18th minute before Enerst Petrol registered his name on the score sheet just before the break.
In the second half, Bullets continued humiliating their rivals when substitute Hassan Kajoke made no mistake to curve the ball over William Thole in goals for Wanderers after receiving a good ball from Chimango Kaira. The Nomads who looked like a disjointed side for the better part of the game reduced the damage through Vincent Nyangulu and Peter Cholopi for Bullets to win the match 4-3.
Nyasa Big Bullets finished the bonanza as runner ups with six points from three games while UD Songo of Mozambique is on third position with three points. Wanderers has finished the tournament on fourth position with no point but has produced a top goal scorer in Vincent Nyangulu with 2 goals.
This is the second time for Nyasa Big Bullets to organize an international bonanza which was won by Ferroviario de Nampula in it’s inaugural year in 2019.
