The Tanzania Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa promised in a meeting held yesterday in Lindi region that the government will pay the cashew nuts farmers who were not yet paid a total of more than 20M this year.
He said that the unpaid farmers after the government’s prove of the farmers names that their names will be taken to Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) for their payment.
The PM’s has just raised this after 7months of the government hesitation to buy the cashew nuts from the farmers, at Tsh3,300 per Kilogram after the disagreement with the business people in the country.
However, the payment was delayed due to confirmation of the total names of the farmers.
“Every farmer owed by the government Will be paid and the government can not harass them in any way,” Majaliwa explained.
He further elaborated that up to 31st of May 2019, more than 51.99M Kilograms priced more than Tsh 171.57bn which is equal to 87.6% of the debt have already been settled to irrespective farmers.
The Lindi regional Commissioner Mr Godfrey Zambi has revealed that Tsh23.4bn has not yet been settled to the Lindi farmers while the names of the farmers were proved at Mtwara post.
The meeting was attended by Lindi members of Parliament, district commissioners among other leaders from different government sectors.
