Malawi national women’s football team has left for South Africa on Monday to take part in the cosafa women’s championship.
Speaking before departure, She Flames coach Abel Mkandawire said they are geared up for the tournament.
“Since we started the preparations the girls have shown signs of wanting to do better at the tournament. We had a number of friendly games with different boys teams. The results we go are giving me confidence that the team is in good shape”, he said.
Mkandawire further said the team will greatly miss Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga who are in China and Sweden respectively.
“We would have loved to be with Tabitha and Temwa Chawinga as they are committed at their clubs. I will do the job with the girls I have now. Hopeful the Chawinga sisters will be available when we play Kenya in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifies”, Mkandawire said.
She Flames are in group B with host South Africa, Madagascar and Comoro Island. Malawi will play its first game of the campaign on Wednesday against Madagascar.
