Silver Strikers to host Civil Sporting in a Lilongwe derby

Capital City giants Silver Strikers and Civil Sporting will renew their rivalry in the TNM Super League when they clash on Sunday at the Silver Stadium in a Lilongwe derby.
This is the second most anticipated fixture on the domestic football after the Blantyre derby involving the Mahatma Maghandi road’s side Nyasa Big Bullets and Lali Lubani boys Mighty Be Forward Wanderers.
Aside the tussle for maximum three points in the elite league and being the giants of the city, there is so much at stake when two meet.
Silver Strikers has dominated the previous derbies for the past three years registering seven wins, two losses and a draw in their last 10 games while Civil Sporting has registered three wins, four losses and a draw in the last eight games.
In an interview with Malawi News Agency (Mana) on Wednesday, Civil Sporting Club Head Coach, Franco Ndawa said they have started their preparations on a higher note adding that this a must win game.
“As you can recall, we are coming from rest, we did not have any game the previous week but at this point in time we have started on a higher note so that our approach for the game should be good while exercising caution.
“Anytime we are meeting Silver Strikers, it turns out to be a tough game and cracker but we just have to put up a gallant fight so that we should emerge victors of the day. As of now, we are just focusing on building the team,” he explained.
Silver Strikers Team Manager, Itaye Nundwe said this is an important game as they are playing with a big and experienced side, adding that they cannot afford a loss to a team of such caliber.
“We are focusing on all departments and we are working on every department to make sure that they are all sharp ahead of the game. It’s a very important game since we are both based in Lilongwe and every one of us wants to win the title and maintain good record,” he pointed out.
Nundwe added the absence of their first goalkeeper, Brighton Munthali and left winger, Duncan Nyoni who are on a national team engagement in South Africa for the Council of Southern Africa Football Association (COSAFA) Championship, would not affect them since they have a variety of replacements.
Five matches have been lined in the week seven of TNM Super League.
On June 1, 2019, Savenda Chitipa United host Masters Security at the Karonga Stadium whereas Dwangwa United will travel to the southern region to face Wanderers at the Kamuzu Stadium.
Action continues on Sunday with Karonga United up against Masters Security at their backyard while Ntopwa lock horns with Dwangwa United at the Kamuzu Stadium.
