Super League of Malawi (SULOM) general secretary Williams Banda says it will still use the same fixtures which were released before kick off of the 2020 season was suspended in March once Football Association of Malawi (FAM) gives a go ahead to start the season in August.
In the fixture which sulom released in February 2020, the 2019 TNM super league champions Nyasa Big Bullets were supposed to start their title defence against Blue Eagles football club.
According to Banda, the elite league governing body has decided not to revise the fixtures as they did not receive any complaints concerning the fixture when it was released and slight changes will only be made where necessary to accommodate other engagement.
“When we released the fixtures we expected those with concerns on the part of teams and ground owners to come forward but we didn’t receive anything which gave us a sign that everyone was satisfied with it. So, we will use the fixture once the season start in August but we might make slight changes to accommodate other engagements for the national team as well as for cup games and this will be done once we have a meeting with FAM,” Banda said.
With the 2020 season expected to start late than usual as kick off was suspended in March due to fears of the spread of Covid-19, it remains to be seen whether FAM will still give room for other cups such as Airtel top 8, FISD challenge cup and the cup that is still to be launched FDH bank cup which will be played the same time the league is in action.
Initially the football season in Malawi starts in April and ends in December as most grounds can not be used for football games once the rainy season starts.
