Super League of Malawi (SULOM) president Tiya Somba Banda continues to say the coronavirus pandemic has given his association new ventures on how they can take the game of football to greater heights.
SULOM are working together with Football Association of Malawi (FAM) to ask the government to allow them to kick off the 2020/21season without fans being allowed to enter the stadiums which have given the elite league governing body an opportunity to put the game on television.
“Am one of the people who has seen a silver line in this pandemic. The season might be allowed to start without fans being allowed to watch matches in stadiums which have given us an opportunity to consider taking the game on television and we believe this is the time to channel the game on television and teams should start benefiting from television rights revenues.
“We are also seeing an opportunity for us to start the electronic ticketing system because even if the pandemic has cleared off and fans are allowed to watch games at stadiums, I don’t think it will health-wise to be selling tickets on the gates in matchday to avoid congestion,” said Banda.
