AFRICA – [MALAWI]

1984 – Tay Grin, the rapper was born. Malawian rapper who became one of the biggest names in African hip-hop with songs like “Break Out,” The Beach” and “Chipapapa.” In 2014, he won the BEFFTA award for Best International African Act and was named as one of the 100 Most Influential People in the World by C.HUB Magazine. He grew up idolizing American rappers like Jay Z and KRS-One. His big break came after a chance meeting with Alicia Keys’ manager Onree Gill in 2005. He is an entrepreneur who created the wireless public payphone company Phone Yanu. His real name is Limbani Kalilani. He once sang with American pop superstar Madonna at a party.”

1999 – Malawi held its second democratic election. Bakili Muluzi was re-elected to serve a second five-year term as President, despite an MCP-AFORD Alliance that ran a joint slate against the UDF.

2001 –  The US cancelled $16 million of Tanzania’s debt and committed to cancelling the remaining $10 million by the end of the year.

2001 –   The UN voted to keep peacekeepers in Congo for another year.

1962 – South Africa passes a bill setting death penalty for many crimes

1877 – Henry Ossian Flipper becomes 1st African American to graduate from West Point Military Academy.

2017 – Scotland yard launches a criminal inquiry and British Prime Minister Theresa May announces a public inquiry a day after the Green fell Tower fire 

2018 – World Cup: Portugal 3. Spain 3- Cristiano Renaldo scores hat-trick – 4th player to score in 4 different WC’s -1 st to score in 8 consecutive major tournaments
