2005 – Congolese and UN troops captured a militia base in the volatile east, as referendum results showed an overwhelming “Yes” to a new constitution intended to help end the country’s conflict. UN and Congolese soldiers attacked militiamen in Ituri and Ugandan rebels in Kivu province killing some 80 rebels.
