Police in Ndirande have arrested three men who have been on the run after they broke into Terrastone Company premises in Blantyre in March this year and stole K11, 780,000.
The three suspects, Milward Chikoko (55) Jimmy Chimanga (31) and Benson Chitenje (28) are suspected to have broken into Terrastone Company on March 20th this year by drilling a whole on the back of the fence before attacking security guards.
Ndirande police Public Relations Officer, Edna Mzingwitsa confirmed the arrest in an interview with Malawi News Agency (MANA) on Thursday saying the suspects managed to break into the accounts office and stole the said cash.
“The police launched a manhunt after the incident and managed to arrest two suspects, Chimanga and Chitenje on Sunday before arresting Chikoko on Wednesday,” she said.
The police also established that Chikoko was jailed before and was released from prison last year. According to Mzingwitsa, the suspect used part of the stolen money to buy plots, sofa sets, plasmas and various household items which the police have confiscated as part of recovery of the stolen money.
Meanwhile the investigations are still underway to recover the remaining cash. The suspects will appear in court to answer charges of breaking into a building and committing a felony there-in once investigations are completed.
