Tigers question why teams have not started training

Tigers football club technical director Robin Alufandika has asked Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and Super League of Malawi (SULOM) to allow teams to regroup and start training in small groups ahead of the impending 2020/21 season expected to kick off in August.

FAM submitted a proposal to the government through Malawi National Council of Sports and the Ministry of Health of their plan to kick off the season on 8th August after it was postponed in March due to COVID-19. The FA also submitted measures it will follow together with its stakeholder to prevent the spread of the pandemic.

Alufandika said with August fast approaching, teams should have been allowed to start training now to prepare for the new season ahead unless if the season will be cancelled.

“FAM proposed August as when the new season will kick off but we have started the month of July but we have not been told to regroup and start training for the new season. We should have been told by now at least to start training in small groups to keep our players fit for the coming season,” he said.

In May, FAM president Walter Nyamilandu Manda said the 2020/21 season will be cancelled if they fail to kick off in August.
