Kasungu Based TNM super league side TN Stars football club players are yet to receive the COVID-19 relief package from Football Association of Malawi (FAM) despite other clubs having received their packages.
FAM promised to give out relief package of K40,000 to 25 players and 5 technical panel members of each TNM super league club from June 1 to December 2020 with conditions that all beneficiaries should be registered on the Mpira connect.
TN Stars spokesperson Kaliwo Nyirenda said they only managed to register 7 of their players on the Mpira connect because of the difficulties they faced in registering the players.
“We faced a number of challenges registering most of our players on the Mpira connect but we have rectified them and soon our players should start receiving the relief package from FAM,” he said.
Commenting on the matter, FAM competitions manager Gomezgani Zakazaka said all elite league teams need to follow all the procedures for them to receive the funds.
“TN Stars only registered seven players in the Mpira connect and those ones are the ones who are receiving the relief fund. The other players will receive their share once they have been registered on the Mpira connect” Zakazaka said.
K17 million was spent by FAM last month to give relief funds to players and officials of different TNM super league teams who have been registered on the Mpira connect.
