United continue with fine form in win over Villa, Spur drop points

Nothing seems to stop Manchester United from collecting maximum points in the English Premier League (EPL) as they continued with their fine form which helped them defeat Aston Villa 3-0 at the Villa Park on Thursday.

With their nerves up not to drop any point to accomplish their mission of playing champions league football, Manchester United frustrated the home side in the 27th minute when Bruno Fernandes scored the first goal of the match from the penalty spot. Mason Greenwood double United’s lead before the break with a fine strike from outside the box which saw the end of Aston Villa on the night.

As if that was not enough, united pressed hard on Villa in the second hand in the search for more goals which came in the 53rd minute through Paul Pogba who scored his first goal in open play since February 2019.

Despite the win, Manchester United is still on position 5 on the standing with 58 points and have set an EPL record for being the first club to win four straight games with 3 or more goals. Before the game at Villa, they had defeated Sheffield and Brighton by a 3-0 goal margin before a 5-2 win against Bournemouth.

In another game on Thursday, two first-half goals from each side were enough for Everton and Southampton to share points at Goodison Park. Fresh from their emphatic win against Manchester City, the saints visited Everton with high hopes and got the better of the home side in the 31st minute when Danny Ings goal put them in front.

Everton which featured the Nigerian Alex Iwobi in the starting line up equalised just before half time through Richardson putting the game wide open for the next 45 minutes which were engulfed by a goal drought.

Jose Mourinho led his Tottenham Hotspur side to Vitality Stadium to face Bournemouth where they returned with just a point after it ended in a goalless draw which frustrated Spur’s hope of a Europa champions league spot next season.

With four games to finish the season, Tottenham Hotspur is on 9th position with 49 points while Bournemouth remains in the drop zone with 28 points.
