Wanderers ask govt to review sports policy

Be Forward wanderers football club chairman Simon Sikwese has asked the government to review the national sports policy for different sporting activities including football to develop in the country.

In 2009, the Malawi government through the minister of sports launched the national sports policy which according to Sikwese is yet to start bearing fruits.

“We would like to see what the new government will do in terms of sports development which include developing football. Government is a driving wheel for the development of a lot of things and can ask companies to sponsor football teams as well as other sporting disciplines and it’s the policy that government can put in place that can make companies to come in and sponsor sports,” he said.

Currently a few private companies support different sporting activities including Nyasa Manufacturing Company (NMC) which support Big Bullets, Simama and Sons supporting the Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) as well as Chipiku Stores Limited and Rab Processors Limited which sponsor the Central Region Football Association (CRFA) and Southern Region Football Association (SRFA) leagues respectively.
