A Babatunde Adeponju brace was enough for Be Forward Wanderers football club to defeat TNM super league newcomers Mlatho Mponela football club at the Kamuzu stadium on Saturday afternoon.
From kick off, Wanderers were seen to be a good side as the combination of former Masters Security football club players Vincent Nyangulu, Francis Nkonda and Babatunde Adepoju edged the Lali Lubani team to put pressure on the visitors for the first 20 minutes.
Mlatho Mponela continue to play in its own shell as the pressure from the home side was too much a thing that resulted in them making a lot of mistakes but wanderers failed to capitalise.
In the 28th minute wanderers broke the dead rock through hitman Babatude Adepoju who headed home a Nyangulu cross and Wanderers jealously guarded the goal to lead at half time.
In the second half the visitors were a more changed side as they leveled the tempo of their game and controller the midfield that forced the home side to start play high balls.
Despite the dominance, the visitors failed to find the back of the net as their strikers Frezor Menyani and Kelvin Malikebu kept shooting wide or had weak shots that didn’t trouble Nenani Juwawo in goals for Wanderers.
The home side made changes as Francis Madinga and Isaac Kaliati paved way for Mike Kaziputa and Felix Zulu respectively before Zicco Mkanda was brought in for captain Alfred Manyozo jnr a thing that paid dividence as the team had their rhythm back and started pressuring Mlatho that in the 78th minute Babatunde concluded a brace as he headed home a Stanley Sanudi cross.
After 90 minutes Wanderers won the game 2-0 to register their third consecutive win in the campaign and move to second position on the log table with 16 points from seven games.
After the game Be Forward Wanderers football club coach Bob Mpinganjira was happy the boys had done a good job.
“We told the boys to take advantage of the fact that we are playing at home and not to give the visitors room to play with the ball a thing that worked as Babatunde scored two goals and we won the game”, he said.
Mlatho Mponela football club coach Eddington Ng’onamo said tough luck to his boys who played well only to be let down by the goalkeeping department.
“We have lost as our goalkeeping was poor for example the first goal our goalkeeper stood very far from the other post where Babatunde scored and the second goal our goalkeeper fumbled the ball into the net which is very unfortunate but nevertheless our players who are just coming from the premier league are improving and we will try to collect three points in tomorrow’s game as we play Mtopwa “,Ng’onamo said.
