Be forward Wanderers football club has revealed not to extend contracts of four players and has released them to try their luck with other clubs before the new season start.
According to Wanderers general secretary Victor Maunde the club has parted ways with veteran Harry Nyirenda, Zicco Mkanda and Lucky Malata as well as Peter Katsonga based on their performance and contract clauses.
“We have decided not to renew the contracts of Lucky Malata and Harry Nyirenda which had already expired and that of Zicco Mkanda which will come to an end in April. Some of the players have been released based on how they performed last year while others have been released as they are demanding more than what the club can offer,” said Maunde.
Maunde further said striker Peter Katsonga who signed a three years deal with the club in march 2019, failed to break into the first team that they decided to release him on loan to seek game time else where.
Reacting to the news, striker Zicco Mkanda who joined the club in April 2018 from Mozambique thanked the club for a good two years they spent together and asked for more time before announcing his next move.
“It is true I will not continue with the nomads when my contract expires. Let me take this opportunity to thank everyone that was part of the Be forward Wanderers FC project. I will keep the good moments we shared having won the FISD cup in 2018 as well as scoring 30 goals in 62 games,” Mkanda said.
Nyirenda started playing for the nomads in 2007 before joining a South African team Black Leopards in 2010. Nyirenda later rejoined the Lali Lubani side in 2016 while Lucky Malata joined the nomads in 2017 from capital city giants Silver Strikers .
Nyirenda and Malata were part of the squad that helped the team win the TNM super league in 2017 after 11 years.
