Despite not winning any trophy in the 2019 season, Be Forward Wanderers football club will play in the 2020 Football Association of Malawi (FAM) charity shield.
FAM communication and competitions manager Gomezgani Zakazaka has confirmed the development saying the decision was made following rules that were put in place for the shield.
“In the 2019 season, we had three competitions which gave us three teams to play in the charity shield but initially four teams are needed for the shield. For that reason rules are clear that the runners up of the super league play in the charity shield if there is a shortfall of teams,” said Zakazaka.
Nyasa Big Bullets who won the charity shield last year, have a chance to defend it as they won the TNM super league last year.
Two Lilongwe based teams, Silver Striker and Blue Eagles football teams will also take part in the shield as they won the Airtel top 8 and FISD challenge cup respectively.
